It is not just the offshore fishing that is good in this area, the inshore fishing offers a great opportunity for 50lb+ roosterfish and 40lb+ dorado. You can try your hand at trying to catch these on a fly rod as well as regular spinning rods.

FISHING SEASON

The Costa Rica fishing season is year round with the peaks for billfish (sailfish, and black, blue, and striped marlin) being during the tropical Gold Season, December through June. However, marlin can be found throughout the Green Season at the nearby sea mounts, with double digit marlin releases a common occurrence. The last few months have seen behemoths of around 750 lbs or more as well.

COMPETITIVE BILLFISH TOURNAMENTS

Los Sueños Resort and Marina has been running tournaments since 2004 and since 2014 has been hosting the ultimate billfishing competition, the Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown. Comprised of three legs fished out of the Los Sueños Marina every January, February, and March, the Triple Crown brings together over 50 of the world’s toughest offshore competitors. Only the best of the best participate and whomever is crowned Series Champion is not only honored on the Wall of Champions at the Hook Up, but takes home bragging rights for an entire year.
